Calíope

The group Caliope was formed in 1993 due to the common interest of singers and musicians in pre-baroque and baroque music and has played its first program integrally devoted to Claudio Monteverdi amidst his 350th death anniversary.

Distinctly vocal, since its creation the group Caliope has expanded its interests and repertoire to Brazilian Colonial Music, Brazilian and European Romantic Music as well as to Contemporary Music.

Throughout its career the group has been intensely active in Brazilian musical scene performing several concerts, presenting programs dedicated to important composers, taking part in operas and releasing CDs.

Caliope was part of the Official Programme of the Brazil Year in France in 2005 performing in a tour through six French cities. The group also made concerts in Germany, in 2005 and in Chile in 2002.
